12.40pm UPDATE: Wayne Rooney issues Man Utd transfer advice
Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has offered his former team-mate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer some bold transfer advice ahead of his busy summer window.
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is close to completing his first deal of the summer with the club confirming an agreement has been reached for Swansea winger Daniel James.
Although United fans are desperate to see a big name signing come through the door at Old Trafford next, Wayne Rooney has warned Solskjaer against that approach, and recommended that he sign several younger and cheaper players.
Rooney told BBC Sport: “The first thing Ole has to do is build the squad and I don’t think bringing in one or two players for £100m is going to help the players already there.
“Ole’s better spending £30-40million on players with potential and building the squad around those five or six players.
“You could bring in players in [Cristiano] Ronaldo, [Lionel] Messi, [Sergio] Ramos or [Gareth] Bale but it’s going to cost you £350m and you’d get two years out of them and you’ve written that money off.”

12pm UPDATE: Man City want Leicester duo
Pep Guardiola’s search for home-grown stars to give his treble-winners an English injection of talent will see him banging on Leicester’s door when he returns from holiday.
But King Power boss Brendan Rodgers is in no hurry to answer as Guardiola brings out his Manchester City cheque book to splash £125million on Harry Maguire and Ben Chilwell.
Rodgers guided Leicester into a ninth-place finish last season – a whopping 46 points behind champions City – and is determined to build his team around the dynamic defensive pairing.
If City offered £80million for Maguire, 26, the board would have to think long and hard with Chilwell, 22, valued at £50million.
Maguire is seen as the perfect fit to fill Vincent Kompany’s boots now he has joined Anderlecht as player coach.

11.40am: Liverpool legend gives Man Utd advice
Manchester United should not sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid – and must spend the money on up to five other new players instead, says Steve Nicol.
“If you physically struggle to play for any length of time in La Liga, do you think you’re going to go to the Premier League and play a full season?” Nicol said.
“Now, that’s okay if you’re a half decent player on half decent money, you can be part of the squad.
“But you can’t be going paying the amount of money he’s going to be looking for in a transfer fee from Madrid and then wages.
“So where is this guy going to go? I don’t know where he goes. How many games is this guy [going to be fit for] if you can’t play the equivalent of half a season in La Liga?
“How can he go [to United]? They’ve already got a brick round their neck with [Alexis] Sanchez on £300,000-a-week.
“They’re going to sign Gareth Bale who they know won’t be able to play a full season, who’s going to be on silly money as well.
“Manchester United have to go and sign four or five proven players that can actually get it done. How can they afford it?”

11.20am: Liverpool starlet Harry Wilson in demand
Newcastle, Southampton and Brighton are all in the running to sign Liverpool youngster Harry Wilson.
The Reds are understood to want around £22m for Wilson who impressed on loan at Derby last season.
Crystal Palace could join the list of suitors if they sell Wilfried Zaha this summer.
Wilson is also wanted by Augsburg, Hertha Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga.

11am UPDATE: Chelsea boost in keeping Callum Hudson-Odoi
Chelsea are close to renewing the contract of academy graduate and England international Callum Hudson-Odoi to fight off transfer interest from Bayern Munich.
That is according to European football expert and ESPN FC pundit Gabriele Marcotti.
“Hudson-Odoi I would expect is more likely to sign, there was talk they’d reached a deal in principle,” he said.
“Obviously he’s injured for yonks but you’ll have Willian, you’ll have Pedro, you’ll have [Christian] Pulisic coming in.
“You’ve got Mason Mount, you’ve got Reece James, you’ve got a whole bunch of really young players.”

10.40am: Liverpool make £71m Nicolas Pepe bid
Liverpool have made a £71million offer for Nicolas Pepe, it has been claimed.
Sport journalist Nicolo Schira claims a five-year deal has now been put forward to the Ivory Coast international.
Manchester United and Arsenal have both been linked with the Lille ace.
Schira tweeted: “#Liverpool want to close Nicolas #Pepe. #Klopp has offered €80M to #Lille and for him a contract until 2024 (€3M plus bonus at year). #transfers #LFC”
Pepe has 35 goals in 74 league appearances for the Ligue 1 club.

10.20am UPDATE: Ed Woodward stance on Anthony Martial
Manchester United chief Ed Woodward has made the club’s stance on Anthony Martial clear after Daniel James completed his move from Swansea to Old Trafford.
That is according to journalist Duncan Castles, who believes that Solskjaer himself would have no problem with the Frenchman leaving the club this summer.
“Perhaps Solskjaer would like to move Anthony Martial on having seen the drop in his performance after he got his new contract,” Castles told The Transfer Window podcast.
“Although, we’ve seen it reported elsewhere that at least one of the Glazers does not want Martial to be sold and I would suspect Ed Woodward would be in the same camp as he has always had a great reluctance at selling any of his own signings.
“Daniel James, talking to scouts in the game, big surprise that Manchester United are going for him and they don’t see he has the range of abilities or the likelihood of developing into a Champions League winner.
“He played for Swansea in a very attacking team. They were renowned for being extremely positive under Graham Potter, who’s now obviously moved to Brighton to change their style.”
Transfer news LIVE: Anthony Martial will not be allowed to leave Man Utd
10am UPDATE: Joao Felix latest
Manchester United transfer target Joao Felix “doesn’t want to” negotiate further about his future at Benfica, admitted club president Luis Filipe Vieira.
Express Sport understands United are interested in signing young talent this summer as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plots a mass overhaul at Old Trafford.
“We sit down with players and they say: ‘President, I can earn five million euros, president, do not make me stay here,’” Vieira told club members.
“Joao Felix had a release clause of £53.4m (£60m) and we realised after two or three games that we must increase it to £107m (£120m).
“But it is Joao Felix and his family who will decide if he stays. If someone bids £107m (€120m) it is not worth dreaming that he will stay.
“We are trying everything to ensure he stays. But the only way is if we sell him and keep him another year.
“If not, Joao leaves. There is no room to negotiate further. He doesn’t want to.”

9.40am UPDATE: West Ham enter battle for Franck Kessie
West Ham are ready to fight Arsenal and Tottenham for AC Milan star Franck Kessie.
Milan could be forced to sell the midfielder in the summer to satisfy Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations and Express Sport understands they will listen to offers in the region of £30million.
Kessie, 22, would prefer to move to a club who can offer him European football.
And that would put the two north London rivals in pole position for a player who is highly rated in Serie A.
The all-action Ivorian moved to the San Siro from Atalanta on a two-year loan deal in 2017.
But they have an obligation to buy him for a fee that is understood to be in the region of £24m.
Signing Kessie would be a massive coup for the Hammers but they face a battle to sign him with more high-profile suitors waiting in the wings.

9.20am: PSG to offer £80m for Matthijs de Ligt
Matthijs de Ligt is set to be the subject of an £80m bid from Paris Saint-Germain as the French giants look to beat Manchester United and Barcelona to his signature.
The Ajax ace is in high demand after impressing in captaining the side to a Champions League semi-final and a Dutch top flight title.
De Ligt has also impressed in helping Holland to the Nations League final where they will face Portugal later today.
Barcelona are thought to have agreed personal terms with the 19-year-old but he has yet to make a decision on playing at the Nou Camp.
And now SPORT claim PSG are ready to offer a huge salary to beat them to his signature.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also desperate to bring De Ligt to Old Trafford as he looks to overhaul his side this summer.
PSG are reportedly ready to offer the centre-back £13.3million per season to make the move to France.

9am: Gareth Bale to Man Utd for just £25m
Manchester United could seal a deal with Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale for as little as £25million this summer – by signing the Wales forward on loan.
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already signed one Wales forward this summer after Daniel James joined from Swansea, and could seal another in the coming days.
Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is desperate to sell Gareth Bale to free up transfer funds after the former Spurs man failed to impress in the latter stages of the season.
Although the club are not as determined to sell their 2013 Galactico as much as their French boss, a loan deal could suit both clubs as it offers a smaller risk.
Both United and Tottenham have been linked with £75million permanent deals for the 29-year-old, but his fitness worries and lack of form have put off both clubs from parting with that amount of money.
However, Bale could still find himself at Old Trafford next season in the form of a season-long loan deal which could cost the club around £25m.

8.40am: Man Utd make bid for Aaron Wan-Bissaka
Manchester United have made a significant bid for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, it has been claimed.
Sky Sports say Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is determined to add the Crystal Palace right-back to his ranks this summer.
That’s following the exit of Antonio Valencia and because of the fact Ashley Young is in the twilight of his career.
Wan-Bissaka has three years remaining on his contract at Palace and it would take a big offer to tempt the Eagles into selling.

8.20am UPDATE: Newcastle eye Jose Mourinho
Newcastle linked multi-billionaire Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan has told friends that he is seriously considering sending Jose Mourinho a managerial offer.
Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is on the brink of selling the club to the prospective buyers for a rumoured fee of £350million.
Fan favourite Rafael Benitez has done an incredible job at the Sports Direct Arena in recent seasons on a limited budget, but could leave the club if the new owner has his way.
The Mirror report that Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan has told friends that he will target Portuguese boss Mourinho when his takeover is confirmed.
The 56-year-old manager has been working as a pundit since he has sacked by Manchester United in December, and he recently admitted that he’d like to join a team that isn’t a European giant.

8am UPDATE: Matthijs de Ligt to Liverpool
Matthijs de Ligt’s agent Mino Raiola thinks Liverpool would be an ideal move for the Ajax defender.
That’s according to a report from the Daily Mirror.
De Ligt’s future is arguably the hottest topic in European football as the rumour mill continues to hot up.
The centre-back is widely expected to leave Ajax after a sensational season as the club’s captain.
And the Mirror say that Raiola believes Netherlands international De Ligt would fit perfectly at Anfield.
The teenager already knows the man he would partner at Liverpool well in Virgil van Dijk.

7.30am UPDATE: Paul Pogba to link up with Maurizio Sarri at Juventus?
Juventus will this week look to get a jump on Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain to launch their bid to re-sign Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba.
The French World Cup winner is set to leave Old Trafford for a second time this summer after a disappointing season saw United fail to qualify for the Champions League.
Pogba is in demand with the trio of European giants interested in signing him, even though Manchester United want to recoup the club record £89million they spent on him in 2016.
Juventus are eyeing him as a statement signing to hail in new era of Maurizio Sarri, who will this week sign a three-year-deal to move from Chelsea.
But the most serious threat could come from PSG, who been working behind the scenes sounding out if Pogba would be interested in a return to his homeland.
Transfer news LIVE: Alberto Moreno could be on his way to Arsenal from Liverpool
7am UPDATE: Arsenal eye Alberto Moreno
Arsenal boss Unai Emery could seal a shock reunion with former Sevilla star Alberto Moreno at the Emirates, reports claim.
A whole host of lesser-known names have been touted as Gunners targets as Emery seeks to further freshen up the squad Arsene Wenger left behind.
Arsenal fans will know all about Moreno, though, thanks to his five-year spell on the books of their Premier League rivals Liverpool.
And it seems they could soon be cheering him on, with reports indicating Emery has the 26-year-old soon-to-be free agent in his cross hairs.
Italian outlet LazioNews24 claim Arsenal have recently begun tracking Moreno, who it was confirmed this week will leave Liverpool when his deal expires at the end of the month.
The north Londoners, along with Real Betis, are said to be ready to make concrete moves for Moreno, who is also wanted by Lazio.

6.30am UPDATE: Memphis Depay interested in Chelsea move
Memphis Depay has revealed that he would like to join one of the “best clubs in Europe” this summer, naming Chelsea on his transfer wish list.
“I want a new transfer to a top club this summer. Lyon is a big club but it’s not one of the five best in Europe,” Depay said.
“I want to go to a club like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich.
“I want to go to a club which suits me. To a team which really wants to play football. I’m not even half-way through what I want to achieve.”
